Montessori Overview

A Montessori education fosters competent, responsible, adaptive citizens who are lifelong learners and problem solvers. Learning occurs in an inquiring, cooperative, nurturing atmosphere. Students increase their knowledge through both self- and teacher-initiated experiences. Learning takes place through the senses. Students learn by manipulating materials and interacting with others. These meaningful experiences are precursors to the abstract understanding of ideas. The individual is considered as a whole. Physical, emotional, social, spiritual and cognitive needs and interests are inseparable and equally important. Each student is treated with respect and individual skills and interests are acknowledged. Respect for self, others, the environment and life is necessary to develop a caring attitude toward people and the planet. Albanesi is the name of our Math and Language Arts Curriculum. The Virtues Project is the name of our Character Education Curriculum. For more information on each of these programs please click on their links in the left hand sidebar.
